With great enthusiasm inmates at the Richmond Hill Prisons took to the playing field on the grounds of the prison to participate in the second annual sports meet of Her Majesty’s Prisons last week Friday.
Superintendent of Prisons Derek John who declared the sports opened said it is the authority’s intention to have the meet every year.
John said it is their hope to have the athletes at the prison be prepared so that they can take part in other athletic sporting activities.
Under brilliant sunshine, the sports began with a colourful march past of all six teams.
It was won by D Landing. In second place was C Landing, and third place was taken by the team from security.
The day of athletics was spiced up with a number of novelty races that included bag races, lime and spoon, and tug-of-war.
