A Happy Hill man has been slapped with five (5) indictable charges following separate shooting incidents over the weekend that left two persons hospitalised suffering from gunshot wounds to their bodies.
24-year old Rahiem Kelshall appeared Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill to face the charges that were slapped on him by police – two (2) attempted murder, (one)1 Robbery with violence, (one) 1 possession of firearm and (two) 2 possession of ammunition.
The shootings took place just after midnight on Sunday – one on the Lagoon Road and the other in Jean Anglais.
A well-placed source told THE NEW TODAY newspaper that police were alerted about a shooting incident along the Kirani James Boulevard in which Brudel Buckmire, the owner of a bar known as the D Joint was shot by a robber.
The source said a masked man who was armed with a gun went into Buckmire’s bar and robbed him of an undisclosed sum of money before shooting him.
Buckmire is said to have received a single gunshot wound to his upper left chest.
The armed gunman in the process of running away from the scene was confronted by two men at Jean Anglias, one of whom he shot – Garfield Matthews, also known as “Cut-Up”.
According to the source, the suspect demanded that the men drop to the ground but the order was disobeyed by Matthews and he was fired upon.
Matthews was shot with the bullet hitting him in the upper left side of his chest.
This newspaper understands that Matthews is in critical condition at the St. George’s General Hospital and arrangements are being made to medivac him out of the country as he is losing feelings in the lower part of his body.
The Chief Magistrate denied bail to Kelshall and remanded him to the Richmond Hill prison until his second court appearance on October 23.
The suspect is being represented by attorney-at-law Deloni Edwards.
Kelshall is known to local police as he is currently before the court on another indictable charge.
A source said that he had been living in neighbouring Trinidad & Tobago at one time and was shot down there himself in circumstances that are not too clear.
