With the Michaelmas school term already into its 3rd week, Digicel Grenada is playing its part to ensure that a number of children, who have difficulties, are getting much-needed support.
The telecommunications company has teamed up with 26 schools throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique to provide assistance through the School Feeding Program.
The students selected to receive free meals were identified by the various schools and will receive these much needed meals for a total of nine months in the first instance.
The School Feeding Program, conducted by the Ministry of Education, is aimed at enabling all primary and selected pre-primary and secondary schools to give improved services through the provision of a nutritionally adequate meal to indigent children from low-income families, single parent household and distant homes.
In commenting on the initiative, Digicel Grenada CEO, Shrivon Redhead said that “Hungry bellies have no ears.
“Often we forget that after all the back-to-school hype, there are still many students who are unable to attend school simply because they do not have the basics such as proper meals, books, uniforms, shoes, stationery and other supplies.
“At Digicel, we want to do whatever we can to ensure that our youth have every opportunity to succeed so that they can go on to make a positive impact on society. We were therefore more than happy to provide assistance to this important initiative.”
