SpeedZone Track Club athlete, Jalani Franklyn has been elected to sit as the first athlete representative on the Executive Council of the Grenada Athletic Association (GAA).
Franklyn was elected to serve the Board at an Athlete Consultation hosted by GAA on September 8 that attracted a cross section of local athletes.
He won the ballot in a closely contested election where he defeated Donisha Brathwaite by one (1) vote.
Franklyn actively competes in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles events.
In speaking after the event, Franklyn indicated that he was not confident of the selection but was looking forward to working in the interest of Grenada’s Track and Field athletes.
A GAA release said that the appointment of the 400M runner is seen as a critical step in the formation of an athlete association/ commission for the sport.
The consultations will continue this Saturday at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, for coaches at 10:00 a.m.
The consultation that will follow will be for track and field enthusiasts.
