The NDC South St. George Candidate Ray Roberts says that he is deeply saddened by the loss suffered by the owners of the businesses as a result of the huge fire at the Grenada Industrial Park and urges government to do all that is possible to help each business return to full operation in the quickest possible time.
Roberts, a former General Secretary of the Grenada Trades Union Council also expressed solidarity with the workers impacted by the fire and pray that the affected employees will be able to return to their jobs as soon as possible.
The NDC candidate said he feels the pain and the loss of each of the investors at the Park, noting the positive role they play in providing job opportunities and their contribution to the Grenadian economy.
He particularly singled out St. Patrick businessman Kenny Lalsingh whom he referred to as “a stalwart investor in our domestic economy for many decades – and expresses his solidarity and best wishes for a speedy recovery”.
Looking to the future, in the reconstruction of the Park facility, he strongly recommends that the GIDC follows best international construction practices by having all walls between tenants made of concrete so that such unfortunate incidents, like the fire on Monday, are minimised.
Police are continuing investigation into the cause of the fire which reportedly left the affected businesses with losses running in the millions.
