Charged with Non-Capital Murder, 38-year-old Glen Andrew of Mt. Rose made his first court appearance last Thursday before Magistrate Nevlyn John at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect who was not represented by legal counsel was taken to court in connection with the January 15 murder of former police officer, Curtis Calliste, who was also a resident of Mt. Rose.
Andrew who was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison at Richmond Hill in St. George’s, is expected to make his second court appearance at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court on February 8.
It is expected that the Preliminary Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Calliste will start on that date.
Calliste was reportedly found dead on the floor of a house in the area with multiple stab wounds inflicted to the body.
THE NEW TODAY understands that the murder suspect, believed to be mentally ill, fled the scene of the crime but was detained hours later during a police search of a nearby area.
Information reaching this newspaper is that the deceased and murder accused were close friends and often spent time in each other’s company.
Calliste’s death was the first and only murder recorded for 2018 so far.
