Former Calypso Monarchs of Trinidad and Tobago, Kurt Allen and Devon Seales are expected to arrive on the island today (Friday) to participate in the 25-year celebratory concert of 8 times Calypso Monarch Findley “Scholar” Jeffery on Sunday at the Spice Basket in Beaulieu, St. George.
In an exclusive interview with THE NEW TODAY newspaper on Tuesday, Scholar confirmed a cast of a least 10 calypsonians and soca artistes, who will join him on the stage in celebration of his Silver Jubilee, a significant milestone in his musical career.
“We are well ahead of schedule…the calypsonians would be coming in as of Friday – former Calypso and Soca Monarch, Kurt Allen and former Calypso Monarch Devon Seales, who is incidentally an authentic Grenadian from Gouyave, St. John,” Scholar said.
“Locally, we have myself, and I will be going far into my repertoire, doing over 15 songs and I would also be doing a segment with Raymond “Beast” Matthew, politics and humour for about 1 hour. And then we have Darius, Black Wizard (and) Bubbler.
“We also have a segment of the more up-tempo music,” which he said will feature veteran entertainer
“Inspector, (along with 3 times Soca Monarch) Boyzie, Terror D General and Pappy boi.”
According to Scholar, the show, which will commence sharply at 6.00 p.m. is expected to run for close to 5 hours.
“It will be a very, very, special show – a variety show not just kaiso, kaiso, but different genres of kaiso and then we are mingling theatre and drama in it. So there would be presentations like on Dimanche Gras night – dancing,” he said.
“So patrons can look forward to a real bumper show because there would be something there for everybody,” he added.
Tickets for the once in a life time event are going at $40 and can be purchased at various outlets including: The Grenadian Optical and Gittens Pharmacy in St George’s, St. David’s Pharmacy, Philbert Brothers in St. Patrick’s, Las Vegas in Gouyave, or persons can pay $50 at the door.
