After successful meetings and discussions between the Grenada Investment Development Corporation (GIDC), Ministry of Agriculture, Grenada Association of Poultry Producers (Gapp) and Sandals Resorts International, Sandals La Source has agreed to engage farmers identified following its discussions with the GIDC, for sourcing purposes.
Sandals Chairman Gordon Butch Stewart has always been keen on developing linkages with local producers and suppliers from the inception of the resort, will finally realize this in the next two months.
The idea is to improve the probability for success of the project by incrementally increasing the orders at a rate that will allow for development of farmers and their operations at a sustainable pace.
The first phase of the project will be piloted over a three (3) month trial period.
The expectation is that this relationship will flourish, order size will be increased thereafter allowing farmers to eventually provide most of the poultry needs of Sandals La Source over time.
GIDC’s CEO said. “this marks an important milestone for the GIDC as we seek to establish alliances between multinational companies on island with local enterprises for the purpose of building local supplier relationships and piggybacking on business and marketing opportunities.”
He further stated that “GIDC is grateful for the support of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Agriculture, and the Gapp in their cooperative efforts to move this critical agenda forward.”
It’s amazing what can be achieved when we work together.
