Retired businessman, James Stephens got a surprise gift and visit Monday on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
Member of Friends of the Blood Bank Grenada Inc. Nurse Karen Jolly journeyed to Stephen’s home at Cafe, Woodland to present him with an award in recognition of his contributions to blood donation at the St. George’s General Hospital over the years.
He is known to be one of the oldest surviving blood donors in Grenada.
An official of the group said that a decision was taken to “join with his family members to celebrate and honour him for the tremendous contribution he had given to the Blood Bank by saving lives”.
The house-bound Stephen is an early pioneer in offering for sale exercise books with the Map of Grenada.
He also served on the St. Joseph’s Convent Executive for many years and was well-known for the grand raffle at the School’s Garden party.
