Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Keith Mitchell will present the much anticipated 2017 Budget to the nation on December 7.
This was announced Tuesday by Minister of State with responsibility for Human Resource Development andThe Environment, Senator Simon Stielll during the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing held at the Ministerial Complex in St. George’s.
It was the second budget date given by the ruling New National Party (NNP) administration of PM Mitchell.
The budget was originally announced for November 25.
However, government was forced to put back the National Referendum on Constitutional changes from October 27 to November 24 – one day before the earlier announced Budget Day.
According to Sen. Stiell, the current session of Parliament will be prorogued on Wednesday, November 30.and will reopen on Thursday, December 1, with a delivery of the traditional Throne speech by the Governor General, Dame Cecile La Grenade.
The 2017 Budget presentation will be made at a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament at the Grenada Trade Centre on December 7.
This will be followed by the debate in the Lower House on the following Thursday and Friday and the in the Senate from December 19-21.
“Based on the availability of the (Trade) Centre… these are the dates that have been put forward,” Sen. Stiell said.
