Bail in the sum of $300,000.00 with two sureties was granted Wednesday to 59 year-old construction worker, Valista Francis of Queen’s Park, St. George’s by Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill, sitting at the St. George’s No.1 Magistrate’s Court.
Francis is facing a charge of possession of 150 pounds of marijuana, which the Police Prosecution Department said has a street value of $340,000.00.
Francis was nabbed with the illegal drug on Sunday during a stop and search operation conducted by Members of the Drug Squad of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
As part of the investigation, the lawmen also seized the vehicle that was being driven by the accused.
In a joint operation conducted by the Grenada Coast Guard, and the Drug Squad, a total of 196 pounds of marijuana were seized and a speedboat was also intercepted in the waters outside Black Bay, St. John’s.
Two persons were taken into custody in the operation – Ernie Peters, 33, of Black Bay, and 22-year old Vincentian national Tevin Bubb.
The arrested men who are said to be fishermen have been charged with trafficking.
The drug suspects appeared at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
