Right Start Cup brings football action to communities

The Republic Bank Right Start Cup is into its third week and is bringing football action to various communities across the island, as the participating teams compete to ultimately become this year’s winner.

Last week Wednesday saw eight teams competing at different venues for a chance to be the winners of some of the EC$24, 000.00 worth of prizes being offered by the Bank.

The Happy Hill Secondary School (HHSS) ‘Red Bulls’ took on the Westerhall Secondary School (WHSS) ‘Iguanas’ in the U-21 Boys tournament at the Beausejour Playing Field.

Red Bulls prevailed in the game 4-0.

Boca Secondary School (BSS) won 5-0 over Wesley College (WC) at Queen’s Park Ground 2 while the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) mauled Beacon High School 12-0 in their match played at the Roy St. John Playing Field in Tanteen.

The St. David’s Secondary School (SDCSS) took on J. W. Fletcher School Catholic Secondary (JWFCSS) at the Belle Vue Playing Field and came out with a  5 -1 victory.

In games played in the U-15 Boys League last week Friday, the Presentation Brothers College (PBC) ‘Canons’ took on Wesley College at Queens Park and emerged victorious 3-0.

BSS played HHSS Red Bulls at Vendomme Playing Field and walked off the field with smiles on their faces following a 2-0 score line.




GBSS whipped WMSS 11-0 and Westmorland Secondary School (WMSS) had a 2-1 win against SDCSS.

Grenville Secondary School (GSS) came up against  Mac Donald College and triumphed  3-2 while defending champions, SAASS trashed Grenada Christian Academy (GCA) 9-0

In the St. Mark’s Secondary School (SMSS) vs. St. Rose Modern Secondary School game, the former won 5-0 and Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School towered 7-1  against St. Joseph’s Convent, St George’s.

The competition continued on Monday with matches played in the Girls open between HHSS vs. WC; SDCSS vs. JWFMCSS; AHS vs. WHSS and WMSS vs. BSS.

Games were also carded for the following Thursday between WMSS vs. SJC St. George’s, WHSS vs. BSS, AHS vs. JWFMCSS and WC vs. SDCSS.

The quarterfinals in the three categories of Republic Bank sponsored tournament is scheduled for Thursday, November10, Tuesday, November 15 and the following day, November 16.

The semi-finals play-off will take place on Friday, November 18, Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22.

The 13th Republic Bank sponsored tournament is expected to culminate with the final games on Friday, November 25.
