The Communal Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. continues to deliver on its commitment to empower its members and their families by looking after their financial welfare and their social and educational development.
An awards ceremony was held August 23 at the Public Workers Union building, Tanteen, St. George’s to present six (6) scholarships and eight (8) grants to the recipients who were successful in the 2016 Caribbean Primary Exit Examination.
The Rodney Mauricette Memorial Scholarship programme began in 1988 under the leadership of the late President Rodney Mauricette.
It started with just two scholarships being awarded every five years.
Over the past twenty eight (28) years the awards have been steadily increasing.
To date, Communal has awarded sixty three (63) scholarships totaling in excess of six hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($650,000.00).
There are currently thirty (30) students in the programme. In addition, six (6) new scholarships were awarded this year and eight (8) grants.
The students were selected based on their academic performance and their financial needs.
The program covers school expenses such as books, uniforms, transportation, examination fees and other costs.
In addition to the financial assistance given, Communal also assist in the mentoring of students and provides parental guidance to guardians throughout the duration of the scholarship.
