Thirty year old Gregory Sylvester, an employee of the Pest Control Division at the Ministry of Agriculture is among two other persons charged in connection with the trafficking of ganja.
Sylvester along with 40 year old Kayron Alexander of Soubise, St. Andrew appeared at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Karen Noel, where $250,000 bail was granted to Alexander and $100,000 granted to the civil servant.
Police had earlier charged two others with the same offence last week – conspiracy to traffic a controlled drug.
Alexander was granted $150,000 bail more than Sylvester as a result of him already facing a charge of conspiracy to traffic a controlled drug.
Thirty-three year old Ernie Peters of Black Bay, St. John and 22 year old Tevin Bubb of St. Vincent and the Grenadines were first charged on August 23rd at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court with Trafficking of a controlled drug.
Peters was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 while the Vincentian was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison at Richmond Hill.
The charges were slapped against the accused men as a result of joint operation between the Coast Guard and Drug Squad in which a speed boat was intercepted outside the waters of Black Bay with drugs.
The police reportedly recovered one hundred and ninety-six pounds of Cannabis with a street value of $444,574.00 on the vessel.
Another one hundred and fifty pounds of marijuana were seized during a stop and search operation by the police.
A release from the Community Relations Department of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) said that a vehicle was impounded and the driver taken into police custody to assist the lawmen with their investigations.
