Minister of Culture, Senator Brenda Hood has announced that a merger is in the making between two state bodies – the Grenada Cultural Foundation (GCF) and the Spicemas Corporation.
Speaking at the weekly held post-Cabinet Press Briefing at the Ministerial Complex on Tuesday, Sen. Hood said the two entities have not merged as yet and government was dealing with the logistics of the legislation.
She did not envisage any major changes as a result of the merger but felt it augurs well for a positive output.
“The name will still remain the name. We are working out all the logistics now and what the procedure is and as I said because both entities are legal entities, there is legislation. So we have to review but the whole idea is to make the activities that they undertake more effective and give more strength to both of them to make sure that whatever we do is in the best interest, so it’s bringing it to the higher level,” she said.
Sen. Hood indicated that the public would be informed so they will know what to expect.
When asked if there will be any adverse effect with regards to staffing, her response was: “I don’t think so.”
The two bodies have roles to play in the island’s major carnival event to be held in August.
