The Drug Squad of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) believes it has made one of the largest drug seizures on the island of Carriacou.
While Grenadians were preparing to celebrate the long Easter Weekend Holiday, the lawmen were able to confiscate 730 pounds of compressed marijuana last week Thursday at an area known as “Gunpoint.”
The drugs have an estimated street value of $1.6M.
An informed source told THE NEW TODAY newspaper that although the lawmen have a good idea of who the marijuana belongs to, the suspects
were able to get away as they ran for cover as law enforcement officers were closing in on them.
“There was evidence that there was someone around because some packets of biscuits and other things were seized in the general area,” the source said.
He stated that the lawmen are working on the theory that the marijuana was destined for transshipment based on the quantity involved and its location.
The compressed marijuana which was packaged in bags was transported to the mainland for safekeeping.
