Four Hundred and Fifty is the amount of scholarships awarded to Grenadians since the New National Party (NNP) government of Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell came into office in February of 2013.
According the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Sen. Simon Stiell, the value of the scholarships granted has been put at EC$29 million.
Speaking at a recent post-Cabinet Press Briefing at the Ministerial Complex, Sen. Stiell said that 216 scholarships were awarded in 2015 and 226 are projected to be awarded for this year alone.
“This is significant – those 450 scholarships and the 226 that are projected for this year will truly transform the lives of those young men and women and as we continue to say, we’ll contribute to the capacity building of our nation”, he told reporters.
Sen. Stiell said that apart from those 450 scholarships, 300 other students have received financial assistance from government with their studies.

According to Sen. Stiell, these young Grenadians have found places in places of higher such as the local St George’s University (SGU), Trinidad through the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), University of the West Indies (UWI), the People’s Republic of China, Cuba, the Commonwealth, Russia, Morocco, New Zealand, Mexico, and India among other countries.
He said the awarding of these scholarships underpins the government and Ministry of Education’s thrust and focus on Tertiary Education in the country.
