It’s the dawn of a new day for Gittens Agency which has gone through some recent challenges.
Gittens Pharmacy was established over 40 years ago by Rupert Elliot Gittens, and according to the Granddaughter, Amanda Gittens-Baptiste, the agency encountered some challenges, with another generation of family members having an opportunity to buy over the long-established pharmacy with the formation of a new company that has promised to provide its customers with innovative products.
GMB Trading, which acquired two of the three original pharmacies owned and operated by Gittens Agencies, was established in July 2015 by Amanda Gittens-Baptiste and her husband, Derick Baptiste who joined their siblings Dr. Renee Gittens and Randal Gittens.
The new generation now has oversight of Gittens Drug Mart at the Wall Street outlet in Grand Anse, St. George’s, and Gittens Pharmacy Limited at Grenville, St. Andrew’s.
“We saw that there is a dire need for proper management, and quality service and products to the Grenadian public,” she said.
The official launch of GMB Trading took place at the Grand Anse outlet, and Amanda who gave a brief overview of the formation of the company indicated that it is their intention to revolutionise the way pharmacies operate their services locally.
She is confident that they will be able to regain whatever market loss they suffered recently with the new products and services that will now be offered.
Amanda said it is their objective to dispense a wide range of generic and branded-named prescription drugs along with general merchandise to their clients.
“Over the next few months the Grenada Community will see the introduction of our new products and programmes that (are) not offered by any pharmacy on the island,” she said.
She spoke of the new company having already been able to fill the void that developed as Gittens Agency Limited exited from the retail market.
Amanda disclosed that on January 1, GMB Trading officially began operations to provide customers with a high quality and wide selection of products at competitive price, coupled with exceptional personalised customer service.
GMB Trading took the opportunity to launch its Gittens Healthcare Programme and the Loyalty Programme Card.
With every dollar spent, holders of the Loyalty Programme Card will receive one point.
After two hundred points are accumulated, cardholders will obtain a five-dollar voucher that is redeemable within the store.
Another service to be made available during this month (February) is the 55-plus Health Club.
Pharmacist, Lakeisha Doyle who explained how the programme works said members of the 55-plus Health Club will be able to receive additional benefits.
Doyle who has been a Pharmacist for the past three years announced that every Wednesday members will receive free consultation with their personal Pharmacist along with free screening.
Members of the 55-plus Health Club will also receive double-reward points on their prescriptions.
“Our goal is to empower, transform and improve our health care at Gittens GMB Trading,” Doyle said.
During the launching ceremony, winners of the Christmas promotion received their prizes from a raffle that ran from December 4, 2015 to January 21, 2016.
