Seventeen children have received assistance from Foodland supermarket after the food store completed its prize draw from its back to school promotion held in the summer.
The draw was held last Friday at Foodland Market Square where prizes of a tablet, an assortment of gift vouchers for school supplies, well stocked hampers, a free computer training course and a sandwich maker were awarded to winners.
There were eight staff members and nine customers receiving prizes.
The promotion, which began on August 14, received hundreds of entries from both customers and staff.
For a chance to win, participants had to write their names, contact numbers and the name of a student on the back of a Foodland receipt of any value in order to have a valid entry.
Handing out the prizes to the different winners was Assistant Manager at Foodland Market Square, Julien Mitchell who congratulated the winners and urged parents to continue shopping at their “family favourite food store.”
“We always have our customers in our hearts hence the reason why you see we have a promotion like this today because we always want to give back something tangible and we are also conscious of the fact that if we do not shop at Foodland we do not have a job so we take you very seriously”, he said.
“…Tell the kids, this is the time they have to remain focused, remember education is the key, education is the only thing that would take you out of poverty,” he added.
Marketing officer at Foodland, Mahera Strachan said this first time promotion was a success and it is hoped that it will be continued next year.
“We’re Foodland, your family favourite food store and we have a lot of families who shop with us, a lot of kids so we wanted to give back something to the children and you know around this time, it is quite costly to get supplies for school, snacks and everything in time for back to school”, she remarked.
“…It was the vision of the Supermarkets Division of Geo. F. Huggins & Co. (G’da) Ltd. to give back in a tangible way to families and assist with back to school preparation. The substantial contribution of prizes from a number of generous business places helped to make the dream a wonderful reality,” she said.
