The T.A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) will have to look for a new Registrar for the start of the new school year in September.
According to well-placed sources the current holder of the post, Guyanese Nigel Gravesande has tendered his resignation as a staff member of the island’s only state-run tertiary institution.
The source who asked not to be named said that the Guyanse national who has been living and working in Grenada for over 25 years tendered his resignation on July 21.
He spoke of Gravesande returning to his homeland to pick up the post of Registrar at the University of Guyana.
A few days ago, THE NEW TODAY contacted Gravesande for comment on reports that he was leaving TAMCC but he was not forthcoming with information.
He said he had heard these reports but did not know where they had originated.
Gravesande later confided in someone that he did receive a call from a news reporter representing this newspaper but did not want to confirm the resignation as yet with the media.
The Guyanese national will return home on August 23 and the following day is expected to take up his job with the University of Guyana.
Speculation is rife that the TAMCC Registrar decided to quit the job due to “political pressure” from certain quarters within the ruling New National Party (NNP) government of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.
Gravesande was once married to a close relative of Prime Minister Mitchell.
A number of questions have been raised in local academic circles about the authenticity of a doctorate that he allegedly acquired in recent years.
One reputable academic who saw a copy of the thesis allegedly written by Gravesande brushed it aside as “mere nonsense” since it was comprised of less than 75-pages.
“That’s not the stuff that can give anyone a Doctorate. Ask him (Gravesande) who tutored him for the Doctorate and where did he go and defend it. Let him disclose the name of the university where he got this so-called doctorate”, quipped the qualified academic.
