A volunteer organisation is expanding its membership in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Fifty- four (54) students from the primary and secondary schools on the island along with four (4) adults were recently enrolled as members of the Grenada Red Cross Society, making it the largest enrollment on the island since the society started here.
The enrollment ceremony which also included a march through the streets of Hillsborough was attended by Director General, Terry Charles who noted that this signifies that the worldwide volunteer organisation is alive here.
Charles applauded the young people for sacrificing part of their time to serve humanity.
Area Education Officer Rosalina Patrice-Lendore recognised the work of the teachers involved in the Red Cross Society as they help to keep the students positively engaged.
Meanwhile, the month of March will see the launch of a new program “STRIVE” which is geared towards reducing youth violence.
This will be funded by the Italian Red Cross Society to the tune of fifty thousand Euros (EU$50,000.00).
