“Our hearts are heavy today, as the Government and People of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique mourn the passing of our beloved Senator Jester Emmons”.

Those were the words issued by the Government Information Service (GIS) as it officially announced the death of the 45-year old Emmons who was the Parliamentary Secretary for Carriacou & Petite Martinique.




Sen. Emmons passed away last Thursday night at the St. Augustine hospital.

According to the GIS release, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell “has reached out to the family of Brother Jester Emmons to convey his most profound condolences”.

It also said that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Elvin Nimrod, has also been in contact with the family and friends of the late Senator.

GIS described the Sen. Emmons as ”a bright young star in the Senate”.
He was appointed to serve in the the Upper House after Mitchell’s New National Party (NNP) returned to power in February 2013 with s clean sweep of the polls.
“Our deepest sympathies are with his family and friends. May the soul of our dearly departed brother, Jester Emmons, rest in peace”, said the GIS release.
Meanwhile, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) issued the following statement on the passing of the Junior Minister.
“The Leader, National Executive and Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with deep sadness, extend their condolences to the relatives and friends of the late Senator Jester Emmons.
“Party Leader, Senator V. Nazim Burke described his Senate colleague as a “true patriot and committed son of the soil, who represented the people of Carriacou and Petit Martinique with distinction at the highest level,” underscoring his special passion for the development of the sister isles, a heritage which they share.
“The prayers of the entire membership of the NDC are with the immediate and extended family and indeed the people of the Sister Isles in their time of bereavement”.
