Digicel has pledged over forty thousand dollars to providing lighting facilities to the Morne Jaloux basketball court.
A company release said that the resident of Morne Jaloux, the Bocas and other surrounding villages will soon be equipped with a Basketball court that can be used for community sporting initiatives and other recreational activities during the day time as well as the evening with its new lighting equipment.
Country Manager, Patricia Maher is quoted in the release as saying that, “This new project at the Basketball court in Morne Jaloux forms part of Digicel’s overall commitment to community development in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, while simultaneously fostering better relations with the people in the communities.
“The new lighted court will provide recreational facilities for the youth in St George and other neighboring communities.
“The facilities will offer them an avenue to develop their sporting skills as well as to channel their energies into something positive and healthy.”
The Morne Jaloux project by Digicel is in addition to the recently launched Digicel 4G Computer Lab at Mount Rose in St Patrick’s.
The 4G Computer Lab will be utilised by the students of the Mount Rose Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive Secondary School as well as the adults and senior citizens in the community.
Beginner Information Technology courses will be provided to members of the community to encourage them to take advantage of the countless opportunities that can be attained through utilizing the Digicel 4G Computer Lab.
Over the past year, Digicel has under taken a number of initiatives geared at bettering the lives of Grenadians and alleviating social ills throughout the communities.
Among them are the renovation work done at the Charles Memorial Home for the Elderly, annual Special Needs festival, financial assistance to the Street Side Achievers, Grenada Patient Kidney Foundation, Programme for Adolescent Mothers, Father Maligans Home for Boys, Hill Top Home, cricket clinics and football tournaments.
Digicel recently launched the double value promotions and as well as the first 4G network across Grenada, an investment of US Five Million Dollars (US$5M) to ensure that Grenadians are aligned to global trends and the latest technology.
