The National Democratic Congress (NDC), expresses its sympathy to the family and indeed the entire Nation of Trinidad and Tobago on the death of former Senator, Dana Seetahal, S.C.
The party notes that the twin island has lost one of its most brilliant legal minds, whose practice and tutelage of the law extended far beyond the shores of the land of her birth.
The NDC also places on record its condemnation of violence in all its forms, in the face of this brutal execution and stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago as they fight the scourge of criminal violence that threatens to overwhelm us all.
NDC Leader, Sen. Hon. V. Nazim Burke, himself a former student of Ms. Seetahal, notes that her contributions in the field of law, especially in the area of Criminal Practice and Procedure was unparalleled.
“The Caribbean has lost not only one of its intellectual giants but an extraordinary and harmless human being. The weight of grief is compounded by the brutality and senselessness of her death”, Hon. Sen Burke said.
An Independent Senator for many years, Ms. Seetahal’s involvement in the legislature of Trinidad and Tobago was characterised by both fearlessness and fairness, traits that ensured her high regard in all quarters of that community.
The National Democratic Congress extends its condolences to her family and friends in their time of bereavement.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
