Sun Group Inc., a Barbados-based company with offices throughout the Caribbean, has officially launched in Grenada the Sun General Insurance Inc., its regional insurance company.
Sun Group Inc., bought 100% of the shares of CLICO International General Insurance Ltd in February 2012 and immediately took full control of the company.
The CLICO/CL Financial Ltd Group does not have any shareholding or other interest in Sun General Insurance Inc.
“The rebranding to Sun General is part of our continued drive to reposition the company as a leading choice for insurance throughout the Caribbean,” said Bernard Weatherhead, Sun General’s Executive Chairman.
“Since the purchase of the company’s assets in 2012, we have been working steadily to introduce new innovations and branding initiatives to demonstrate to our customers that this is a brand new day for this insurance company”, he added.
The insurance industry in the Eastern Caribbean is trying to recover following the collapse of two giants – CLICO and British American.
One of the major innovations launched by Sun Group Inc, since its inception is a fully automated online quoting engine, where customers can get an accurate insurance quote within minutes, from the comfort of their office or home.
Recently, Sun General also began rolling out online credit card payments via the web site, a service which they will soon be offering across the Caribbean.
Weatherhead applauded the strength of the existing team and their dedication to providing superior customer service.
“We are always looking for sound business opportunities for investment; the resilience of the team in place and their participative culture of excellence played a strong part in our overall decision to bring on this company as a part of our Group”, he said.
Sun General’s operations in Grenada are managed by Terry Ann Roberts with a staff complement of eight persons.
Full-fledged offices are located at Church Street, St George’s and Jubilee Street, Grenville, St Andrew’s.
Respected veteran insurance professional Davis Browne, who brings 33 years of industry experience to bear on the new company, is the President of Sun General.
