Sandals LaSource presently operating at 90% occupancy

POINT SALINES, Grenada — Sandals LaSource Grenada, which opened Dec. 21 following a 10-month renovation of the former LaSource, is running at 80-85% occupancy in its first two months of operation, Sandals said.

“Right now we’re at 90%, and this pattern follows straight on through the winter season,” said Peter Fraser, general manager. About 35% of customers are coming from the U.K., the rest from the U.S. and Canada.

The resort added 125 new rooms to the original 100 units, and is divided into three distinct villages: Italian, South Seas and Pink Gin, offering a total of 20 different room categories. The Italian Village features 69 butler suites, each with a private plunge pool and a claw-footed porcelain bathtub in the bathroom. Sandals calls it a tranquility soaking tub.

“We’re eager to get agents down here to see for themselves what this resort offers their clients. It’s the first Sandals to have a Butch’s Chophouse (named after Butch Stewart, Sandals chairman and founder), but this culinary venue will open in other Sandals in the coming months,” Fraser said.

Sandals LaSource also features an interactive TV wide-screen system that allows guests to select snapshots taken on site by the resort photographer, view Island Routes’ tour offerings, order movies and scroll through the wedding packages and amenities available.

“This system also will be put in place at our other properties,” Fraser said.

Wedding business is picking up, according to Khadine Francis, wedding manager.

“Our first ceremony was held nine days after we opened. We have 10 on the books now through mid-March, but we are hopeful of handling up to three a day when business gets going. We’ve had a lot of interest in group weddings where several rooms are booked pre- and post-wedding,” Francis said.

Dive clients can get certified at the resort; currently there is one dive boat with more on order. Glass-bottom snorkeling boats also are due to arrive soon.

Nine restaurants are on site; only the Chophouse requires reservations. Room service is available in the butler and the 41 Club Sandals suites during specific hours.
