Food & Beverage Captain, Martha Elcock and Front Office Supervisor, Hermian Griffith walked away with the well-earned titles of Spice Island Beach Resort’s Employee of the year 2013 and Supervisor of the Year 2013 awards respectively. Analee Walcott finished as Runner-up to the Employee of the Year for her performance as Demi Chef de Partie (Kitchen). This all took place at the Resort’s annual employee awards ceremony, which was held on Monday, 20th January, 2014 in the St Andrew’s Suite.

Reacting to her moment in the spotlight, Mrs. Elcock remarked, “I felt elated and honoured knowing we are a top-class hotel. It goes to show that I’m

doing a great job. My endeavour is to do the best that I can at all times.”

Hermian expressed similar sentiments. “I am heartened and deeply touched by the generous show of congratulations from the employees of the other departments, signifying that I had made an impact on them as well,” she noted.

The prestigious Chairman’s Award, which is chosen by the Resort’s Owner, Sir Royston Hopkin, KCMG, was presented to Food & Beverage Service Manager, Fabian Mitchell for his excellent performance throughout the year.




When asked how he felt about receiving this esteemed recognition, Fabian responded jubilantly, “I felt proud to know that our Chairman and Managing Director has acknowledged me as one of the pillars for embracing his vision for Spice Island Beach Resort.”

Just As the ‘Spice Man’ appears centred on the Resort’s logo, so too are the employees of Spice Island Beach Resort considered central to the life and success of the Company. “Our human resources are what define us and the members of the Spice family are our most valuable asset,” Sir Royston said as he commented on the significant contribution made by all employees to the success of the resort. “All our accolades over the years are as a result of the hard work and dedication of all members of our team and I am very proud of them. The least I can do in return is to recognise outstanding performances,” he further stated.

Many other employees were honoured at the Resort’s awards ceremony this year. Beach Attendant, Nicholas Burke was named Guest Champion of the year for receiving the “most positive mentions” on guest comment cards. Receiving Special Recognition awards were: Trevor (Andy) Andrew – Shift Leader (Maintenance Department), Nathalie Stafford – Steward (Kitchen) and Donnette Stuart – Supervisor (Front Office) for their contributions within the Resort. Not to be outdone, S.P.I.C.E. service behaviours awards were also given to: David Charles – Houseman in the Housekeeping Department and Mavis Stafford-Mitchell – Spa Therapist at the Resort’s own Janissa’s Spa.

Performance Recognition winners for each department were:- Swanie Smith – Front Office Receptionist, Gladys Dale Charles – Kitchen, Jacintha Lewis – Room Attendant in Housekeeping, Agatha Griffith – Food & Beverage Server, Jennel Williams – Spa Therapist and Atwell Redhead – Maintenance Handyman.

All-expense-paid Caribbean vacations for two went to the Employee of the year and Supervisor of the year, whilst others received Z10 Blackberry smart phones and various prizes of cash, dinners at some top local resort.
