Two new venues have been added to the second edition of the Island Water World Grenada Sailing Week, which takes place from January 30 to February 4.
The organisers have indicated that this year’s event would be bigger and better with close to 30 boats from 10 countries already registered for the competition.
This year the Festival has a new title sponsor, well established chandlery, Island Water World.
Other sponsors are Mount Gay Rum with their ever-popular Red Caps and premier marine paint supplier, Sea Hawk, are again Race Day Sponsors.
In addition, the newly created Grenada Tourism Association, Mount Cinnamon Resort, Doyle Caribbean, and Turbulence Ltd are Associates, Gold and Silver sponsors, and 14 Grenadian companies are Bronze Sponsors and/or free service providers.
Ten races would be held over the four-day period.
The Skippers briefing and welcome ceremony takes place on the Thursday evening at Port Louis Marina – Victory Bar and the first race will take place from Port Louis Marina on Friday – Mt Gay Race Day to be followed by the Mt Gay Red Cap Party.
Second Day race leaves Port Louis Marina on Saturday for a Sea Hawk which ends at La Phare Bleu Marina followed by a Pirates theme party in the evening.
Sunday will be rest day with activities including the Petite Calivigny Yacht Club hosting match racing followed by La Phare Bleu Marina famous dingy concert in the evening.
The third day of racing on the Monday will see the sailors leave from La Phare Bleu Marina and end at Prickley Bay Marina.
On the Tuesday the final day of racing, the events will centre around Prickley Bay Marina with the culmination of the prize giving ceremony, dinner and grand party in the evening.
A number of highly competitive crews have expressed interest in defending their 2013 titles, such as Cruising Class I winner, Jaguar and the top Racing Class crew from Slippery who are competing in another boat this year.
With more boats verbally indicating their intention to attend, 30 to 40 participants are expected, resulting in approximately 250 – 300 captains/crew/supporters/officials coming to “Spice it Up in Grenada!”
Chairman of the Sailing Week festival, Marc De Caul, said that what is exciting so far is that the registered boats are newcomers to Grenada due to the marketing of the regatta in places such as Europe and in magazines.
General Manager of Island Water World, Kelvin George says he is happy to be the title sponsor of this event and will provide financing for the event.
George said that his company was looking forward to a bigger and better event next year and complimented the Board of Directors of the Grenada Sailing Week for bringing the event together.
