Police are investigating the loss of thousands of dollars from the Lucozade Bar on Soca Monarch Night, August 9.
THE NEW TODAY understands that an unidentified individual grabbed the box of money from the bar as the show was coming to an end.
The bar which was set up in front of the stands at the Grenada National Stadium at Queen’s Park, St. George’s was selling the Lucozade Energy Drink at a special price as a means of encouraging carnival lovers to be energised and to have a safe Carnival.
This newspaper was informed that within a split second a male individual grabbed the box and ran off into the thick crowd.
A chase was given but the suspect was lost among the large number of patrons attending the show.
According to a well-placed source, it is believed that the individual who stole the money was closely monitoring the operations at the bar.
“As much as you’re trying to be safe, there are some people (who) just set out to do these things during busy periods. Some people go out there with that intention,” the source said.
George F. Huggins and Company (Grenada) Limited which is the local agent for Lucozade has pumped $20,000.00 in sponsorship for the 2013 Spice Mas events.
Five thousand dollars of the money went to soca sensation, Boyzie as the Lucozade King of the Road. It is the second consecutive year Boyzie has won that prize.
Lucozade also provided sponsorship for the Junior Monarch Competition of the Children’s Carnival Frolic held August 3 at the national stadium.
