The death of an 11-month old baby of Mardi Gras, St. George’s has caught the attention of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
The death of the baby girl, Melanie Cyrus was made known to the media on Monday following a release issued by the Community Relations Department (CRD) of the force.
The release said that initial investigations by the police unearthed that an accident at the home on Sunday night may have led to the death of the infant.
THE NEW TODAY has been reliably informed that the baby fell from the hands of her father.
Speculation is rife that the father had just taken Baby Melanie from the mother and was proceeding down some wooden steps on the outside of the house when he slipped and fell.
It is reported that in the process, the infant’s head was knocked on a piece of wall.
The baby was rushed to the St. George’s General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A family member told our News Desk that the baby had just awoken from sleep and was crying and acting up.
“In an effort to get her quiet, the father took her from the mother and while going outside and down the steps the incident occurred”, he said.
The death of Baby Melanie sent shock waves to the small neighbouring community.
