A Form Five student at Happy Hill Secondary School (HHSS) lost his life Wednesday morning after he was allegedly stabbed by a Form One school girl.
Seventeen-year old Alex Gabriel of Perdmontemps, St. David’s lost his life on the school compound after receiving a single stab wound to the neck with a sharp instrument.
The incident, which arose out of a conflict between the two students, took place inside one of the classrooms.
THE NEW TODAY Newspaper learnt that at the time of the confrontation, Gabriel was selling chocolate on the school compound, something he does during the normal break.
According to a well-placed source, the two students were engaged in an altercation which resulted in the young lady becoming aggressive.
There are reports that the young lady kicked Gabriel, and in retaliation he took a desk and pelted at her.
The accused responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing Gabriel directly on the juggler vein of the neck.
A wounded Gabriel ran from the scene of the incident but eventually collapsed on the upper corridor of the school building.
Head of the Community Relations Department of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF), Cadet Officer Rebekah Jones who confirmed the death of the 17-year old young student to the media described the fatal stabbing as a very sad moment for the students, teachers and families.
The death of the teenager now brings the homicide toll for the year to 13.
A number of HHSS students had to be rushed to the St. George’s General Hospital after falling sick as a result of the incident on the school compound.
The 15-year old accused was quickly taken into custody by Police Officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Gabriel was pronounced dead by Dr. Gail Friday, and his body was removed by a local Funeral Agency.
Several parents showed up on the school’s compound to enquire about the welfare of their children.
Over the years, the Happy Hill School has been dogged by physical confrontation between students and students and in one case a male schoolteacher was accused of striking a female student.
