Lavaman and Shortpree are winners

2012 LIME/SMC Soca Monarch, Marcus “Lavaman” James

Two of the better known soca artistes in the country ended up in winners row on Bacchanal Friday night at the National Stadium during Grenada’s Groovy Soca Monarch and LIME/SMC Soca Monarch competitions.

Carriacou resident and entertainer Finbar “Shortpree” Andrew (254 points) won the hearts of the judges to take home the 2012 Groovy Soca Monarch title with his rendition and performance of “Spice Island Summer”.

The defending Groovy King, Randy Isaac was forced to settle for the second position with 232 points with his presentation of “Wine On You”.

Findley “Scholar” Jeffrey scored a total of 226 points to take the third position with his performance of “Naked”.

The official results are as follows: (1) Finbar “Shortpree” Andrews (Spice Island Summer), (2) Randy Isaac (Wine On You) 232 points, (3) Findley “Scholar” Jeffrey (Naked) 226 points, (4) Theron “Maximillion” Francis (No Behaviour), 221 points, (5). Tron “Yaga” Stewart (Nice Time), 219 points, (6) Gleenson “Glaze” Andrews (Jam It), 215 points, (7).Wrenroy “Blacka Dan” Ogiste (3 Dollar Bread), 213 points, (8). Mishael “Mr. West” Williams (Pink Tights), Kelvin “Otis” Celestine (Wet Me Down) and Byron “Doggies” Cameron (Dance Dian), 208 points and (12). Raphael “Croqueta” Johnson (Mister Groove) and Kester Brookes (No Place Like Home) on 12th with 202 points.

Last year’s Road March winner, Marcus “Lavaman” James grabbed the coveted title of 2012 Soca Monarch King with his song, “Psycho’’.

Randy Isaac placed second

He scored 243 points to win by one point with his presentation and performance depicting that of a “psycho”.

Lavaman had patrons on the grounds and those sitting in the stadium getting quickly into the groove and dancing and enjoying his energetic presentation and with every move out down by this Carenage resident.

Lavaman also received the Brian Pitt “People’s Choice Award”.

Defending Soca King, “Terror Kid” could not hold onto his crown

Despite his captivating performance, young entertainer Jalon “Boyzie” Olive had to settle for the second spot. “Boyzie” scored a total of 242 points.

Defending Soca King, Terror Kid finished in the third position with 219 points.
