CHILD PROTECTION AUTHORITY’S SINKING SHIP!!!
CAPTAIN THIS SHIP IS SINKING, CAPTAIN THE SEAS ARE ROUGH….SHALL WE
ABANDON SHIP OR STAY ON IT. CAPTAIN WE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO?
This letter is geared at creating some level of awareness as to the issues plaguing the staff at the Child Protection Authority. It is my hope that the concerns addressed will stir to action those involved in making critical decisions on behalf of those crying out.
The problems are not new to the Authority, however it seems that the powers-that-be are helpless to address the pending situation.
These issues include:-
*The management style of the Director
*The insecurity and instability that presently exists among staff members.*Deafening silence of the Board of Directors in the midst of this chaos.
The Authority is seemingly managed by the Director and his deputy. It is clear that the board is divided and some members are used as rubber stamps in order to carry out certain directives.
The voices of other Board Members are silenced, however, it appears they are not satisfied with the whole operation.
Those staff members who dear to voice their displeasure or disagreement with some decisions are dealt with. If any should dare to make their voice or opinion known, swift action is taken to silence the individual. This may take the form of a suspension, memo or warning letter, or worse being summoned toan upstairs “gang” meeting where judgement and sentencing is carried out, without giving staff an opportunity to properly prepare or defend themselves, punctuated by threats and insults.
If you are favoured you are granted immunity, if not favoured your treatment is like dogs, scant courtesies, frequent memos warning letters, threats and suspensions that come in rapid succession.
It is clear that one of the tactics is to intimidate and frustrate staff so that they will be forced to resign.
This situation seemed to worsen when staff decide that it is time to seek their interest and become unionised.
The Authority also house Counsellors working out of their Scott Street Office. Reports are that these staff members have been abandoned and ex-communicated from the main office. They are treated with scant courtesy and appear to operate on their own.
Disgruntled staff have made requests to meet with the Board of Directors to voice their dissatisfaction, however it appears that someone avoids such, blocking any interaction the Board may have with the staff whom they have never met.
Note that these issues are not new to the Child Protection Authority as it is already in the public domain that all is not well at CPA, hence the reason stakeholders are not giving their full support.
It is ridiculous to think or imagine that over 2 years the board has never met formally with members of the staff. If you do not know your staff how can you plan critically for the organisation?
It is even more ridiculous to think that Board meetings are held at the CPA office, but at the same time members of staff are not aware as to who these members are.
It is possible that they will come face to face with each other but are unaware of their respective positions.
A call is therefore made for the relevant persons to step in urgently and rescue this sinking ship. TAWU represents the workers, make your presence felt and defend the rights of the workers.
Shame on you Board Members who hold prominent positions in their respective fields – Sociologist, Counsellor, Doctor, Pastor, Police Officer, Social Worker and Lawyer.
Madam PS, step up and make good representation of your Minister and Ministry.
Ask about the vehicle for the Carriacou office and the exorbitant price tag it came with. Question the influence this had on the Government regulating the spending of Statutory Bodies and passing of the Economic Bill.
At this juncture a call is made to the Honourable Minister of Social Development to intervene, TAWU, Senator Humphrey, stop sleeping and rightly represent the workers. Have you received the report from the grievance meeting held over a year ago with an independent mediator?
What became of the suggestions and recommendations of staff?
Reliable sources indicate that the Staff is faced with mounting pressure since their decision to become unionized.
How are the staff coping? How can they then work with abused children when they themselves are abused? Remember if they are not emotionally and psychologically well, they will not be able to take care of the nation’s children – abused staff cannot help abused children.
We are reliably informed that there are a number of staff who are contemplating their resignation but we implore on all of them to hold on, better and brighter days are coming.
The reign of tyrants only last for a while and we urge CPA staff to unite under one banner, support each other and fight the good fight because the nation’s children are depending on you.
STAKEHOLDERS JOIN THEM AND DEMAND THE DISSOLUTION OF THE TERMITE EATEN BOARD.
THE DAYS OF MASSA AND MASTERS ARE OVER, SLAVERY AND OPPRESSION HAVE CEASED, WALLS OF SEGREGATION AND SEPARATION HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, GRANTING FREEDOM TO PERSONS TO MAKE DECISIONS AND ALLOW THEIR VOICES TO BE HEARD.
JOHN PUBLIC IS TALKING LOUDLY BUT NOW IS TIME TO COME FORWARD AND ADVOCATE AND SPEAK OUT ON BEHALF OF THE CHILD PROTECTION AUTHORITY.
