Over the years Christianity has grown in Grenada. Religious groups are preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, establishing new congregations and everyone claim that they are a Christian but who is a Christian?
Acts 11:26 establishes the fact that the disciples – the early believers and followers of Christ were first called Christians in Antioch because they were followers of Christ in every aspect. A Christian is therefore a person who from serious thought, embraces the religion of Christ, believes His promises and makes it his chief care to shape his life by the precepts and example of Christ.
The foundation of the teachings of Christ is Love for God and Love for our fellowmen. Christians are expected to be loving people because they serve a God of love.
In John 13:35 it is clearly stated that people will be able to identify a Christian when that individual has love for his fellowmen. In Matthew 5: 44 Christ admonishes Christians that they should love even their enemies, bless those who curse them, do good to those who hate them and pray for those who use them and persecute them.
When He was asked how many times one should forgive a person who offended him, His reply was seventy times seven – 490 times. This means that Christians should be always willing to forgive those who offend them and seek forgiveness. In fact, in Matthew 6:14-15 Christ warns, “If you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your father will not forgive you your sins.”
The relentless effort of an official of the Grenada Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist to have the Hillsborough Adventist Church liquidated does not reflect the loving character of Christ; it is self seeking, it is proud and delights in the evil desire to win. God is a God of love but his actions does not reflect that of a loving God.
1 John 4: 7-8 states. “Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. WHOSOEVER DOES NOT LOVE DOES NOT KNOW GOD BECAUSE GOD IS A GOD OF LOVE.”
How can one who claims to be a servant of a loving God, on Friday October 24, 2014, the preparation day for the Sabbath send a team to Carriacou equip to uncover a church where Christians should be worshiping on the Sabbath day? Christ will never sanction that. The manner in which the Pastor dealt with the problem which existed between himself and the church at Hillsborough, the process of expelling our church from the sisterhood of churches and subsequently taking us to court for the building and tithes was definitely a mistake but while we await a date for the hearing of the case, to attempt to remove the covering of the church in which we worship does not reflect the characteristic of a Christian.
We have no problem with the doctrines of the church but 2 Corinthians 11: 13-15 describes the actions of such people as the characteristics of, “ false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ” and Matthew 7 :15, Matthew 24:11 and Mark 13:22 also warns Christians, “Be aware, because false Christ, false prophets shall arise in the church dressed in wolf clothing and shall deceive many, causing them to leave the church.”
They will be rewarded accordingly.
