Carriacou Domestic Cricket

For the sixth consecutive year, Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited has pledged its support for the Carriacou Domestic Cricket Competition. This year’s event will start off with the parade of teams from 1:00pm, on Saturday, followed by the opening ceremony with remarks from Republic Bank’s Managing Director, Keith Johnson, and a Representative from the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs. At 2:00p.m, the opening match will commence with competing teams, Hotel Laurena Mt. Royal and The President’s 11.

Zimbabwe cut coaching staff for West Indies tour

Zimbabwe will embark on their first Test assignment in over a year without key coaching personnel. KFC pumping money into National Relay Meets

Local Fast Food Restaurant, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is once again providing sponsorship for the National Relay Meets. The Relay Meets that is carded for February 23 at the Grenada National Stadium was officially launched before the media last week Tuesday. During the launch that was witnessed by a number of coaches from the various secondary schools, KFC Financial Controller Justin Penny announced that the Fast Food Restaurant has, this year increased from $30,000.00 to $40,000.00. Patrick Simmons: Best times for sports

Five hard courts have been constructed over the last four and a half years by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports. This was disclosed by Minister Patrick Simmons during a public meeting of the National Democratic Congress who said that the initiative to create more facilities for athletes was done under the leadership of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas. Simmons said athletes now have the opportunity to go to a playing field and practice at any time with lights and not having to worry about the conditions of the facility. The Games Are On

Without any uncertainty, Grenada will indeed host Zimbabwe and West Indies in three One-Day International (ODI) Games. Confirmation was given to the media on Tuesday by members of the Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) during a media briefing at the Grenada National Stadium. The three ODI’s are scheduled for February 22, 24 and 26. The athletic season is due to run off during the course of this month, and Olympic and World 400m champion Kirani James is urging the young athletes to be consistent in their training. The Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) has taken a decision to have its President Gabriel Henry step down. The decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of the GCA on Monday. The cricket body moved against Henry in light of a criminal matter that is hanging over his head. Henry who was destined to become the Candidate of the main opposition New National Party for the Constituency of St. David’s is accused of engaging in a public fracas with his female companion on New Year’s Day. Who is Mark Felix?

Mark Trevor Felix is a son of Grenadian soil originally from Spring Garden, St. Paul’s. Born on April 17, 1966 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter & Veronica Felix (both deceased), Mark left Grenada in 1987 to work for Carnival Cruise Lines. He returned home briefly in 1997 to represent Grenada in the Natural Bodybuilding Competitions held in the Caribbean. On the Cruise Lines he met his wife Denny and they were married in 1996, and subsequently moved to England in 1997. Together they raised three sons aged 14, 9 and 7. Grenada to receive US $500,000 from FIFA

Football’s world governing body (FIFA) has agreed to give the Grenada Football Association (GFA) a grant of US half a million dollars to build new headquarters in St. George’s. President of the GFA, Chenny Joseph says construction of the new office complex is expected to begin no later than February next year.
