This initiative forms part of Sandals Foundation’s “Game Changer Program”.

The aim is to give underserved youth access to planned sports, recreation, healthy lifestyles and family engagement as well as activities including new camps, afterschool training and coaching sessions.

Game Changer was launched in Grenada in July 2016 in collaboration with Wades World Foundation, NPO of basketball super star, Dwayne Wade.

So far the program has seen the renovation of the Limes Community Basketball Court, and the implementation of weekly children’s after school basketball programmes in the Limes, headed by well-known local coach, Cyril Cox.

Canadian-based company, PTX Performance Products Inc. is a leader in design, development, manufacturing, marketing & distribution of branded action sports equipment for mass retailers worldwide.

This donation of ‘Stable 26 Basketball Socks’ will enable the youth in the islands of Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados and Turks & Caicos to be equipped with gear worn by basketball pros.

In commenting on the timeliness of the donation, National Basketball Coach, Anthony Benjamin said, ‘This gift is very timely as our male and female school teams prepare for next month’s Windward Islands Schools Basketball Tournament”.

“It will increase the players comfort and boost their confidence as they will have professional level gear to use on the court”, he added.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Technical Director of the Grenada Basketball Association, Kester Elcock.

He said: “This will be a plus to the eight teams around the island competing in the ongoing National Under 23 Tournament”.

According to Account Manager of PTX Performance Products Inc, Adam Landen, supporting the Sandals Foundation’s Game Changer Programme was a perfect and natural progression to the company’s mission”.

“Here at PTX we are thrilled that we could make a difference in the lives of youth across the Caribbean with the contribution of our Stable26 athletic socks. It gives us great pleasure to know that our product will help the less fortunate feel more comfortable in their footwear”, he added.

Director of Programmes at Sandals Foundation, Heidi Clarke, expressed her own thank you to the newest Game Changer partners.

“We are now into the period of our third anniversary for our Game Changer Programme. We have been heartened by the successes of the initiative and the growing international support which has increased our ability to engage our youth through schools and the wider community through an avenue that they love and are excited about”, she remarked.

“We have watched our children develop holistically in ways when we started we only hoped we could achieve and we could only attribute the achievement of these goals to the support from companies such as PTX Performance Products. Partnerships are always necessary and allow you to double the impact that you achieve alone”, she said.
