A slight drop in performances at 2016 CAPE Examinations

The 2016 CAPE results are in and the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) has recorded a slight decrease in the performance of students in comparison with 2015.

In 2016, there was an overall pass rate of 83.38 % while there was an overall pass rate of 83.72% in 2015.

Officials of the college noted at a press conference the decrease in performance but still commended the students for a job well done in the exams.

Acting Registrar of the College, Marva Bowen-Neptune and Assistant Registrar for Exams, Anique Wilson met with local reporters on Monday at the college to inform the nation about the performance of the students.

Bowen-Neptune announced that the performances for CAPE Unit 1 saw a pass rate of 79.32% with a total of 34 Grade One’s in nine subject areas as compared to 53 Grade One’s in nine subject areas in 2015.

“A Grade One denotes excellent performance by students. Grade One’s were obtained in the Unit 1 2016 CAPE Examinations in Biology (1), Chemistry (2), Communication Studies (10), Economics (1), Environmental Science (2), Law (2), Management of Business (1), Physics (4) and Pure Mathematics (11)”, she said.

“The best subject performances in the 2016 Unit 1 CAPE Examinations were recorded in Applied Mathematics (100 % pass), Art & Design (100 % pass), Literatures in English (96.88 % pass), Geography (94.44 % pass) and Communication Studies (93.94 % pass),” she added.
According to Anique Wilson, the overall pass rate for CAPE Unit 2 is 89.42% as compared to 89.38% in 2015.

She said 45 Grade One’s were achieved in nine subject areas compared to 58 Grade One’s in 11 subject areas in 2015.

“Grade One’s in 2016 Unit 2 CAPE Examinations were obtained in Accounting (3), Biology (10), Caribbean Studies (4), Chemistry (1), Environmental Science (1), Law (3), Management of Business (1), Physics (6) and Pure Mathematics (16). One hundred percent passes for the 2016 Unit 2 CAPE Examinations were recorded in Applied Mathematics (100 % pass), Environmental Science (100 % pass), French (100 % pass) Geography (100 % pass) and Literatures in English (100 % pass),” she told reporters.

The top five performers in CAPE Unit 1 are: Karxena Harford with three Grade One’s, Kalifa Phillip with three Grade One’s, Yusuf Stafford with two Grade One’s and two Grade Two’s, Trist’n Joseph with two Grade One’s and one Grade two and Trent Strachan with Two Grade One’s and one Grade Two.

The top five performers in CAPE Unit 2 are: Sanjali Mahbubani with four Grade One’s, Kristi Neptune with three Grade One’s, one Grade Two and Grade Three, Riann Thomas with three Grade One’s, one Grade Two and one Grade Three, Aleski Hall with two Grade One’s, three Grade Two’s and one Grade Three, Robyn St. Bernard with two Grade One’s and two Grade Two.

On the Carriacou campus, there is an overall pass rate of 84% compared to 88% in 2015.

Kaysha Gay has been recorded as the best performer on the Carriacou Campus with two Grade One’s, one Grade two and one Grade Three.

The subject areas that had the most entries were in both Units: Communication Studies with 132 students registered and the least number of entries were: Applied Maths with one student registered, Spanish Unit 1 with two students registered.

In regard to Cape Unit 2, it was Applied Math with one student, Cape unit 2; it was Spanish with five students registered.

In 2016, a total of 391 students from the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), including Carriacou, wrote the 2016 CAPE Examinations in 19 subject areas, compared to a total of 439 students in 19 subject areas in 2015, while a total of 32 students from the T.A. Marryshow Community College Carriacou (TAMCC) Campus wrote the 2016 CAPE Examinations in seven subject areas, compared to a total of 14 students in six subject areas in 2015.
