Dr. Mc Barnette was grateful for the class’ donation and said, “On behalf of the Grenada Cancer Society, we are deeply appreciative of this donation from the Events Management class of Fall 2015, and this contribution will go a long way towards raising awareness about cancer, and towards providing access to some patients who require treatment”.

The Events Management Class engaged in various fundraising activities over the Fall semester, including the development, staging and execution of a Candlelit Dinner Event under the theme, “Igniting the Light of Hope”.

Some of the main sponsors of the event were C-Tech Securities, Dawne Buckmire (Business Administrator, SGU), Lime Grenada Ltd, RBTT Bank, Scotia Bank, Le Chateau Restaurant and Bar, Grenada Breweries Ltd, Umbrella’s Beach Bar, True Blue Bay Resort, Movie Palace and Le Conch Health and Beauty Spa.

The Candlelit Dinner Event was held on November 21, 2015 at the Grenadian by Rex Resorts, and included a delicious three course meal and live cultural entertainment.

Attendees were truly pleased and satisfied with the performances, service, layout and organisation of the event.

The Events Management class is held once every school year and is taught by two business professors, Naline Joseph and Helen Bhola-Paul.

As a requirement for passing the course, students are required to demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the semester by organising a successful and practical event, in which the proceeds are donated to a local charity of their choice.

Last semester’s class comprised of thirteen (13) students each enrolled in the Bachelors of Science Degree Programme.

Past classes have contributed significant amounts to various charities including the Kidney Foundation, Diabetic Association, Lupus Foundation, Heart Foundation, Sickle Cell Foundation and the Father Malegaon Home.
