Catholic Youth preparing for WYD

The Diocese of St. George’s-in-Grenada has started making preparations to attend World Youth Day (WYD) 2016 in Krakow, Poland from July 25 to 31, 2016.

Diocesan Youth Coordinator, Sr. Gillian Jerome, SSM, is hoping that parishes will take the opportunity to support their youth, and likewise, the youth and young adults from across the diocese, will engage in fundraising initiatives that will afford them the opportunity to attend the event in Poland.

It is hoped that the Grenadian Pilgrims will explore the possibility of visiting Vatican City and other historical parts of the Catholic world in Rome, and Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in France.

Sr. Gillian told THE NEW TODAY newspaper that during the stop in London awaiting the onward connections to Poland and back to Grenada, two different parishes have graciously extended hospitality to the Grenadian Pilgrims.

The anticipated cost for the trip is EC$8,000, and will include registration and solidarity fees, airfares, train fares, bed and breakfast, Pilgrim T-shirts and administrative expenses.

A payment plan has been put in place to help ease the financial burden on those who intend to make the pilgrimage.

The first instalment of EC $1,000 to facilitate Grenada’s target for international registration, solidarity fees, and down-payment for accommodation of the Pilgrims in Rome is due for payment by December 15 and can be made at Republic Bank A/c#42009676 – R.C. Bishop of St. George’s – Diocesan Youth Council or at the Youth Secretariat.

Another payment of $1,000 is due by January 31, 2016 and from February 28 running up until May 30, persons are required to make monthly payments of $1,500.

In addition, the first half of the payment on travel tickets are due in by March 31, 2016.

The Pilgrims travel from Grenada to London on July 13 and from London to Poland on July 17.

The contingent will leave France by train on August 8 for London, and depart two days later for Grenada on August 1.
