Uncle Tilly awarded by NDC New Yorkers

Former Prime Minister and Political Leader of the main opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tillman Thomas has been bestowed with the “2015 Champion of Democracy Award.”

The former Prime Minister received the award from the NDC New York Chapter in recognition of his lifelong work for political reform in Grenada.

Grenadian Medical Student, Christa Patrick who participates in cutting-edge research and innovative medical projects was the recipient of the inaugural NDC New York Chapter’s “2015 Rising Star Award.”

Other awardees were Franklyn Mitchell who was given the “2015 Solidarity Award,” in recognition of his leadership and support for the NDC New York Chapter, Marvin Blaize, the recipient of the “2015 Legacy Award,” in recognition of his contribution in carrying on the mission of NDC in the Diaspora, and Cecil Manley who was bestowed with the “2015 Community Service Award” in recognition of his numerous acts in the community.

The awards were presented last Sunday as part of the observance of the NDC’s 28th anniversary, which took the form of a brunch under the distinguished patronage of Political Leader Senator Nazim Burke and the rest of the Leadership who are currently on a  North American tour.




The visiting high-level NDC delegation first order of business in the United States was a press briefing involving members of the Caribbean media in New York on their arrival last Friday.

Public Relations Officer of the NDC New York Chapter, Bernard Bourne who phoned into the NDC Heartbeat Programme on Sunday reported that on the same Friday, the delegation had what was described as “a mix and mingle” with the Diaspora in New York, and again in New York on Saturday met with Grenadian Businesses and groups.

At the start of the week, the team moved onto Washington, DC in an effort to forge links with organisations and individuals, as well as held a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday in which they provided updates on the current political and economic situation in Grenada.

The NDC team also visited Toronto and Montreal in Canada where similar meetings were held.

The NDC Leadership North American tour which has as its theme, “Partnering With The Diaspora To Build A New And Vibrant Grenada,” climaxes with a Town Hall Meeting on Sunday at Holy Cross Auditorium in Brooklyn, New York.

Congress has been trying to rebuild following its devastating 15-0 defeat at the polls in February 2013 at the hands of the New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.
