Three Grenadian youngsters displaying exceptional football talent will join others in Jamaica from October 25th to November 1st to participate in the Digicel Kick Start Academy being conducted by three coaches from the internationally acclaimed Manchester City Football Club.
Josh Gabriel, Zarrel Phillip and Rahim Stephen were selected during the locally conducted clinics held April 25th to 26th at the National Stadium.
According to Digicel Grenada CEO, Ciaran Burke, the academy has provided “a marvelous opportunity” for scores of aspiring young footballers to be put through their paces in football.
“This experience alone must be invaluable to the future of Grenadian football and who knows what the future holds for the … boys who are attending.
“Digicel’s commitment to the development of the youth in Grenada and across the region is clear. An involvement of this magnitude is Digicel’s acknowledgement of the exceptional qualities they possess and will continue to encourage and support their development.
The Digicel Kickstart Academy is the company’s contribution to finding the region’s next top football talent.
This is the eighth year of the programme, and the first year it will be led by coaches from Manchester City Football Foundation, to train the top 27 aspiring young footballers who will participate in the weeklong Digicel Kickstart Academy in Jamaica.
Each selectee had their own way of looking at the value of their selection.
Rahim Stephen said “after trying out for the second time at the clinics, I am happy to be selected and hope to gain much knowledge from the training”.
Josh Gabriel said: “Am happy to be selected to attend the academy and take away all the knowledge with me.
In the case of Zarrel Phillip, he said: “At the academy itself I will take away the knowledge of football and embrace this new experience.”
Digicel wishes all of the participants the very best in their training and future endeavours.
