The Foster Gittens Memorial Scholarship for 2013 has been won by Jamie Pivott of St. Paul’s, St. George’s.
Jamie Pivott topped the students from the St. Paul’s Government School who wrote the 2013 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment, and as such earned himself the coveted Foster Gittens Memorial Scholarship.
Pivott will receive $400.00 cash annually and an appropriately worded scroll.
He received the prize at the school’s graduation held July 2 from Rheta Robinson -Thomas, a Director of the Foster Gittens Memorial Foundation Inc.
Jamie Pivott who won a place at Presentation Brothers Collage, St. George’s, is the son of Karl & Barbara Pivott of St. Paul’s, St. George’s.
The Foster Gittens Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 to honour the outstanding contribution made to education and general community building in St. Paul’s by the late Foster Gittens as Principal of the St. Paul’s Government School 1952-1962.
The Scholarship is administered by a non-profit charitable Foster Gittens Memorial Foundation Inc. registered in 2002.
Its donors include former Attorney-General, Dr. Francis Alexis, Commancheros New York Support Organisation, Gittens Group of Companies, Gittens Insurance Brokers and Rheta Robinson-Thomas.
The Foundation has every year been assisting five students in the secondary school system at such institutions as AHS, GBSS, PBC, SJC and Wesley College. Some of its scholars are currently at Universities.
Spokesperson for the Foster Gittens Memorial Foundation Inc., Margaret Stuart says that the Scholarships honour Foster Gittens and encourage young people to strive for the excellence in education and community building set by Foster Gittens.
