Police believe they have caught one of the main persons who is allegedly behind the importation of ganja into the country from neighbouring St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Nathaniel John from Carriacou who is alleged to be a Drug Kingpin is among four men who have been arrested and charged by members of the Drug Squad of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
John is branded as being the main organiser of the marijuana coming out of St. Vincent.
Although three of the men including a Barbadian National and a Vincentian were caught by the lawmen late last week, John who is a diver from Windward, Carriacou was only nabbed on Monday.
The other three men facing the drug-related charges are Devon Layne from St. Vincent, Kirk Griffith of Barbados, and Allison Bartholomew, who resides at Tivoli, St. Andrew’s.
Altogether, the lawmen confiscated 141 pounds of marijuana that has a street value of $140,000,00.
A number of packages that contained marijuana allegedly belonging to the Barbadian man was discovered in a hotel by the lawmen.
The drug-suspects appeared at the Gouyave Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Jerry Seales.
Bail in the sum of $100,000.00 was only granted to John and Bartholomew while the two non-nationals were remanded to the Richmond Hill prison to be held in safekeeping.
The drug suspects are due back in court on July 5.
