LG is Announced The new 9.1.5-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS: X Soundbar feature a new upward firing center speaker that allows you to hear the conversation clearly, turning the conversation upside down and into your ears. Up-firing drivers are a big part of how soundbars typically generate surround sound – which is one in five here – and LG claims that the up-firing center is the first in the world. The soundbar also has a pair of wireless rear speakers, which can now additionally transmit audio to the side walls of the room, which also increases the audio brightness.
The new up-firing center speaker is the same channel as the regular hub, but adds clarity to the conversation. The same goes for the two additional side drivers on the rear speaker pair; This is the same channel as the sidebar of the soundbar. LG claims that its AI room calibration can automatically configure the timing of each speaker and sync everything.
This new LG soundbar (model S95QR), along with its rear speakers and built-in wireless speaker, have a combined 810W power output. On both the Dolby Atmos and DTS: X, the LG S95QR is positioned as the premium soundbar and the successor to the 7.1.4-channel LG SP11RA soundbar.
Unfortunately, the new soundbar – like its predecessor – still does not support Bastro for 4K 120Hz with HDR. If you have a new 4K HDR TV and Series X or PS5, you may not want to plug your game console directly into the bar. However, you should still get the benefit of variable renewal rate (VRR) support.
Soundbar also supports auto-low latency mode (ALLM) and can be controlled using smart devices such as Google Assistant, Alexa and “with other AI assistants”. The old LG SP11RA soundbar had AirPlay 2 support and can be controlled using Siri, but it is not clear from LG’s newsletter that the new soundbar has it (but we’re confident).
LG also claims support for its Wowcast Wi-Fi audio dongle, which was first released last fall, and will be available UK page of LG. Wowcast is a device that makes the soundbar wireless in situations where it is difficult to run the cable between the TV and the soundbar. It can be mounted on the back of your TV and stream the HDMI eARC connection between it and the soundbar. LG says the Wowcast will be sold separately, so look forward to a US release with the new Soundbar.
However, LG did not share the pricing or release date for the new LG S95QR. Soundbar will be the first to be announced and featured in the company’s products Virtual CES 2022 booth.
