New Board for Grenada Sailing Week

A new board is now in charge of the affairs of the Keelboat Regatta of the Grenada Sailing Festival. The board is now headed by Marc De Caul and includes Richard Szyjan, Patrick Brathwaite, Nicholas George and Mike Bingley. The January 31 to February 5, 2013 regatta will now be called the Grenada Sailing Week. Following are brief profiles of the new board members: Marc DeCaul was elected as Board Chairman. J.W. Fletcher joins Right Start Youth Football tourney

Grenada’s newest secondary school is among three secondary schools that are among the competing schools in the 2012 Republic Bank Right Start Cup Youth Football Tournament. J.W Fletcher Catholic Secondary School, Beacon Secondary, and Grenada Christian Academy are among 17 schools that are seeking to grab the coveted title from the defending champion, St. Mark’s Secondary (boys), and St. Joseph’s Convent, St. George’s (Girls). Prizes and prize monies have increased from $15,000.00 to $20,000.00. Kirani James continues winning form

LINZ, Austria, August 20, 2012 – World and Olympic 400m champion Kirani James of Grenada continued his winning form when he won in the Austrian city of Linz on Monday. James won easily in 44.46 seconds, ahead of Jonathan Borlee of Belgium in 45.10 and American Calvin Smith in 45.34. Three aspiring Grenadian footballers have impressed former England and Liverpool football legend and Digicel Kick Start Head Coach, John Barnes to win places to attend the Digicel Kick Start Academy in Barbados. The trio – 15 year-old, Trent Peters, and 16 year-olds, Anjanni Ambrose and Kereem Woodroofe will participate in the Academy scheduled for later this year. The boys were chosen from a competitive group of 30 who all showcased their talent during a three-day Clinic. Huggins gives a double

The firm of George F. Huggins and Company (Grenada) Limited has made a double monetary presentation to the Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC) for the Olympic Team that would be participating in the London Games. A presentation of $1,000.00 came from one of Huggins products, Kimberly Clark Huggies and Scott Brand. The money was raised out of a decision taken by the firm to reward each six and four scored during the West Indies/India A Teams cricket match that took place at the Grenada National Stadium earlier this month. With great enthusiasm inmates at the Richmond Hill Prisons took to the playing field on the grounds of the prison to participate in the second annual sports meet of Her Majesty’s Prisons last week Friday. Superintendent of Prisons Derek John who declared the sports opened said it is the authority’s intention to have the meet every year.
